Inari Sámi designer Susanna Kaartinen named the socks Veedih, which means tree roots. The wide cable pattern tapers towards the foot. The socks have a French heel.

Finished sock measurements: Foot length: 23 (24, 25) cm. Leg length from top of heel flap: 38 (42, 42) cm. Foot and ankle circumference: 20 (20, 24) cm. Calf circumference: 32 (32, 36) cm.

Materials:

Yarn: Jalovillan Oinas (85% Finnish wool, 15% nylon, 270 m / 100 g) or other DK or Aran weight yarn. 2 (3) skeins or 540 (810) m. Pictured in color Voikukka.

Needles: 3 mm double-pointed needles. Choose needle size to match gauge.

Other tools: tapestry needle, cable needle.

Gauge:

22 sts × 32 rows = 10 × 10 cm in stockinette stitch in the round (after blocking).
