Rugs bring character to interiors and softness to floors. You'll find rugs for every room in your home: plush wool rugs for the living room, practical and easy-care rugs for the kitchen, and durable rugs for the hallway. These include wool rugs created in collaboration between VM Carpet and Avotakka, MADesign's unique Moroccan vintage rugs, and Allo rug made from nettle fiber by Parolan Rottinki.
Choosing a rug – how to succeed
When choosing a rug, the most essential thing to consider is its purpose and placement. Is the rug going into the living room, a child's room, the kitchen, a bedroom, or the hallway? In addition, pay attention to at least the size, material, and interior style.
Rug size
You shouldn't cover the entire floor with a rug, but often the rug should be larger than the furniture placed on it. For example, the width of a rug chosen for the living room should preferably be larger than the width of the sofa. If the rug in the dining area is placed under the dining table, you should choose a rug that is significantly larger than the table set. A sufficiently large rug looks better in terms of proportions, and it also makes it easier to move chairs when sitting down at and getting up from the table. In the hallway, you can consider how large an area of the floor needs to be protected from water and sand.
Rug material
Wool is a suitable material for, for example, the living room or bedroom, as it feels warm and soft underfoot. High-quality wool is naturally dirt-repellent and easier to keep clean than many might believe.
Rugs made from synthetic fibers are durable and easy to care for, and they are available in an almost unlimited number of different style and color options. Rugs made from recycled plastics are continuously growing in popularity.
Rugs can also be made from, for example, paper yarn, linen, cotton, or mixtures of these different fibers. New innovations are constantly appearing in the selections – have you already heard about nettle rugs or rugs made from plastic bottles?
Rug colors and patterns
When considering the style of a rug, two things should be taken into account: the rug's colors and the rug's patterns. Eye-catching patterns and colors are generally best suited for larger spaces that need a real focal point. A more subdued, color-neutral rug is a safe choice for any space. However, you can freely play with style, as different rugs make it easy to bring personality and character to a space.
