Meiju Kallio, known as Meiju Knits, is a big fan of Vuokko's clear and timeless style. We asked her which patterns from the Rakkaat kuviot & Vuokko magazine have become her personal favorites.

The perfectly fitting cardigan

"Jenna Kostet's Pystyraita-takki (Vertical Stripe Cardigan) is my favorite simply because I love cardigans. Jenna usually creates stunning, more complex fair isle knits, but in this cardigan, a minimalist vertical stripe pattern is knitted in fair isle vertically. It's relaxing to knit as you can immediately see how the pattern should be knitted. The neckline of the cardigan is shaped with short rows to ensure a perfect fit, even though the cardigan is otherwise relaxed. The yarn used is super warm Icelandic wool."

Chunky and modern

"My second favorite is definitely the Jättiruutu-paita (Giant Square Sweater), designed by Suvi Lyytikäinen. This chunky, large-squared sweater is knitted from the top down, and the vertical stripes of the squares are added later by crocheting. The slightly batwing sleeves give the sweater a modern shape and flatter all body types. The yarn used is Novita's Halaus yarn, which is thick but light and knits up very quickly."

Sophisticatedly understated

"My third favorite is Heli Hottinen-Puukko's Latu-paita (Track Sweater), which is full of small but perfectly thought-out details. It's amazing how stripes can be knitted in so many ways! The stripes are skillfully aligned to the right spot in every size using short rows on the shoulders and sleeves. The yarn used is Sandnes Garn Alpaca, which gives the sweater a wonderfully fluffy sheen. A definite classic!"

Rakkaat kuviot & Vuokko (Dear Patterns & Vuokko) is Kotivinkki's wonderful knitting magazine, inspired by Vuokko's stunning timeless designs. The 124-page magazine contains 20 unique and previously unpublished knitting patterns. In addition, you can read an article about Vuokko's story on its pages.

The patterns in the knitting magazine were designed by top Finnish knitting designers and international stars: Jennifer Brou, Mia Sumell, Heli Hottinen-Puukko, Hannemari Lehtonen, Veera Jussila, Janita Koskinen, Minttu Wikberg, Suvi Lyytikäinen, Maija Vaara, Greta Majewska, Emma Suominen, and Jenna Kostet. The difficulty level of the patterns ranges from easy to challenging.

The magazine's patterns include beautiful stranded colorwork and stripes: sweaters, a cardigan, a vest, headwear, socks, scarves and cowls, mittens, and a bag.

The size range for the knitwear is extensive, meaning there are knits for all sizes. Sock sizes can be increased by changing needle size. The knits use yarns from brands such as Novita, Lankava, Istex, Markus Company, Tukuwool, Regia, Filcolana, Wetterhof, and Sandnes Garn. Good availability and versatility were considered in the yarn choices.
